Most of what goes wrong on custom booth projects does not go wrong at purchase — it goes wrong at installation. The chamber arrives at the correct size, and then the hall door turns out to be narrower, or the electrical supply insufficient, or the filter box unreachable once the unit is fixed.
A custom booth site survey is what prevents all three. Our sequence is explicit: survey the site, fix the internal size, then sign off the configuration before manufacture.
The order that prevents rework
| Step | What it fixes | What it prevents |
|---|---|---|
| Site survey | Space, access routes, supply | A chamber that will not fit its site |
| Fix internal size | Part dimensions + technician working space | A chamber the part will not enter |
| Configuration sign-off | Heating, filtration, extraction, door | Changes after manufacture starts |
| Manufacture | — | — |
The third step is the one usually compressed under schedule pressure, and it is the most expensive thing to compress. Changing configuration after manufacture has begun means remanufacture rather than modification.
What the survey actually measures
- Available space — not chamber footprint alone but the service clearance around it
- Access route — door widths and turning radius inside the hall
- Electrical supply — 380 V three-phase across all documented models, with power from 11 to 50 kW
- Free height — under the truss or ceiling, not the stated architectural height
- Extraction route — the stack path and what surrounds it
Service clearance is not a luxury
A booth needs service space around it rather than its own footprint alone: to open doors, and to reach the treatment unit and the filter box at change time. A chamber fixed hard against two walls saves a metre today and costs an hour at every filter change afterwards.
And that hour repeats. The pre-filter is watched weekly in our climate, so difficult access to it is a daily operating burden rather than a one-off inconvenience.
Internal size starts from the part
The rule: what are the length, width and height of the largest part or vehicle to be coated? Internal size is chosen on that, plus the technician’s working space around it. The published range runs from 3000 to 24,000 mm long and 2650 to 6000 mm high.
The figure forgotten in that equation is the working space. A chamber sized exactly to the part means a technician who cannot move around it with a gun, and the result shows on the finish.
Electrical supply is checked, not assumed
Supply is 380 V three-phase across all documented models, at 50 or 60 Hz, with power from 11 to 50 kW depending on size and configuration.
The check is made against what is actually available after the workshop’s other loads, not against the stated board rating. Compressor, lifts and lighting draw on the same capacity, and calculating the booth alone yields a reassuring, wrong number.
Frequently asked questions
When does the survey happen?
Before the internal size is fixed, which means before any figure in the technical offer. The survey is what makes the figures that follow executable at your specific site.
Can the configuration change after sign-off?
Some items yes, such as control tuning and filter class. Others no, chiefly internal size, chamber wall and door size. That is why the design is approved before manufacture rather than after.
What do you need from me before the survey?
The dimensions of the largest part to be coated, the space available at the site, and the electrical capacity you have. Those three are enough to begin the technical conversation, and the rest is completed in the survey.
Does the quoted lead time include the survey?
Design, manufacture and delivery time is set once size and configuration are fixed, and it is given with the technical offer. The survey precedes it because the survey is what makes estimating possible.
