On structural steel projects the question always arrives late: how does the piece get in? The size is approved, the offer is signed, and then it emerges that there is no way to bring a multi-tonne structure into the chamber.
A heavy steel structure paint booth starts from the handling method, and size follows. Reversing that order is the commonest cause of redesign in this sector.
Handling is an input, not an annex
Part size, weight and handling method are the first inputs, and provision for hanging or moving parts inside the cabin goes into the design from the start.
A heavy structure differs in that its load points are limited and fixed by its own design — so the chamber is built around those points, not around its outline alone.
| Item | Range / source |
|---|---|
| Internal length | 3,000 – 24,000 mm |
| Internal width | 3,000 – 20,000 mm |
| Internal height | 2650 – 6000 mm |
| Main door | up to 14,200×5,000 mm powered |
| Air capacity | 18,000 – 190,000 m³/h per set |
| Weight and load points | From the structure’s own design |
The door constrains the whole project
The opening the structure passes through determines both chamber size and chamber position in the hall. The main door on large builds reaches 14,200×5,000 mm under powered operation, because a door that size is not hand-operated on a daily cycle.
It also needs manoeuvring space in front of it sufficient to bring the structure in straight. A correctly sized chamber in the corner of a hall can be unusable because the turning radius in front of it is not there.
Thermal mass
A heavy steel structure absorbs heat slowly and releases it slowly, so time to cure temperature is longer than for a light part of the same surface area. That enters the cycle time calculation and makes heat output a figure read against weight rather than area.
Published heat output runs from 200,000 to 600,000 kcal/h, and the choice within it follows your part’s mass and coating together.
Frequently asked questions
Does the specification include the handling system?
Provision for hanging or moving parts inside the cabin is part of the design and is discussed with the specification. Its detail is built on your part weight and load points, and scope is defined in the technical offer.
What is the heaviest part you can handle?
The limit is set by the handling system at your site and by the structure’s load points, not by the chamber alone. Send the heaviest weight and how you currently lift it so we can build on that.
How long does a chamber this size take?
Design, manufacture and delivery time is set once internal size and configuration are fixed, because it follows chamber volume, heating system and required filtration. It comes with the technical offer rather than before it.
Can the chamber be used for smaller parts?
Yes, and the practical constraint is efficiency rather than possibility: a large chamber run for a small part heats and moves air for volume it does not need. If your line mixes sizes, send the range so racking is built on it.
