An ambulance starts as a van or a light chassis and ends as a tall box built on top of it. The distance between those two states is what takes it out of the standard automotive envelope.
Ambulance body refinishing is therefore sized on the vehicle after the box is built: height jumps above the cab roof, length grows with the box overhang behind the axle, and the surface becomes a large flat plane instead of the curves of a car body.
Height is the first figure to leave the range
The INTECH internal chamber is 6900×4000×2650 mm. That 2650 mm takes passenger cars and SUVs with spraying clearance above them, but a tall conversion box approaches or passes it — so the vehicle leaves the stock range for a built-to-order one on height alone, not on length.
| Item | Delivered range | What governs it here |
|---|---|---|
| Chamber length | 3,000 – 24,000 mm | Overall length once the box overhangs |
| Chamber height | 2650 – 6000 mm | Highest fixed point including roof fittings |
| Automotive reference | INTECH chamber 6900×4000×2650 mm | The line between stock and built to order |
| Van and minibus builds | from 8000 mm delivered | The class converted vehicles fall into |
Roof fittings count inside the height
The height that enters the calculation is the highest fixed point on the vehicle, not the top of the box shell. A light bar, an aerial or a roof-mounted air conditioning unit adds tens of centimetres to that figure. If they are removed before coating, send both numbers, because the chamber is built on the state the vehicle actually enters in.
A large flat surface changes the flow calculation
The side of a box body is a wide flat plane, and spraying it runs in long continuous passes. That puts more into the air per unit of time than a curved panel sprayed in short passes. Air capacity is built on chamber volume within a published range of 18,000 to 190,000 m³/h per set, read alongside a heat output of 200,000 to 600,000 kcal/h.
Frequently asked questions
Is a standard automotive booth enough for an ambulance?
Measure the height before deciding. If the highest fixed point still leaves spraying clearance under a 2650 mm ceiling, a stock model serves you; if it does not, anything beyond the automotive envelope is built to order.
Is the box coated before it goes on the chassis?
That is a decision about your production line. Coating before fitting needs a smaller chamber and a support arrangement for the part; coating after needs a chamber at the full vehicle height. Send what you do today, because the two sizes differ.
What door size does a vehicle this tall need?
The published door range runs from 3000×2600 mm to 14,200×5,000 mm powered. The door is measured on the tallest and widest section passing through it, which here is the box roof rather than the cab mirror.
Does filtration change for this vehicle type?
Filtration follows coating type and finish level rather than vehicle type. Published in this family are arrestor, pre- and ceiling filtration at EU3, EU4 and EU5, and up to three-stage bag and high-efficiency filtration at 98% or better.
