The longest delays on a custom paint booth rarely start in the factory. They start with a change requested after manufacture has already begun.
Configuration sign off before manufacture is therefore the gate that closes the decisions which cannot be reopened cheaply: extraction direction, heating system, filtration stages and doors.
Why the survey precedes the size, and the size precedes the configuration
Every custom booth starts with a site survey, because the space available governs what can be built at all. The internal size is then fixed from the dimensions of the part to be coated plus the technician’s working space around it. Only once the size settles is the configuration built on it — air capacity, heat output and door size are all derived from chamber volume rather than chosen independently of it.
What each gate closes
| Gate | What it fixes | What remains open |
|---|---|---|
| Site survey | Available space, entry route, stack position | Internal size and configuration |
| Internal size | Length, width and height within the delivered range | Configuration only |
| Configuration sign off | Extraction, heating, filtration stages and doors | Nothing — manufacture begins |
The range the size moves inside
Fixing a size does not mean picking from a closed list. The delivered range in this family runs 3,000 – 24,000 mm in length, 3,000 – 20,000 mm in width and 2650 – 6000 mm in height. The size is chosen inside that range by the part, not by an off-the-shelf model.
Frequently asked questions
Can the configuration be changed after sign off?
Sign off is the point at which manufacture starts, so anything after it is a change to a live order rather than a design detail. That is why all four decisions are put on the table together beforehand instead of being left to a later stage.
What if the final part size is not known yet?
Send the largest part entering the booth today and the largest expected later. The internal size is fixed on the larger of the two, because widening a built chamber is harder than building it wider at the start.
Does sign off happen on site or on paper?
The survey happens on site. Fixing the size and signing off the configuration happen on a document that is reviewed and signed, and that document is what the booth is manufactured against.
Do the same steps apply to a stock model?
INTECH models are built on a 6900×4000×2650 mm internal cabin with a published fixed specification. The three gates apply to anything beyond that size, which is designed and built to order.
