Most facility plans split coating work in two: preparation, then paint. In practice there are three stages, because removing existing coating differs from ordinary preparation enough to stand alone.
An aircraft paint stripping bay produces chemical residue or particulate, and both follow a disposal route governed by environmental requirements rather than simply leaving with the exhaust air.
Why it is kept away from spraying
The industry page states the sequence plainly: preparation, stripping and inspection precede coating, and each stage has different air and extraction requirements. Combining them means one of them gets done incompletely.
With stripping the penalty is doubled. Residue carries into the spray environment, and filtration selected for overspray is consumed on particulate it was never sized for.
| Item | What governs it |
|---|---|
| Extraction | The particulate and media in use, not overspray |
| Filtration | Stop and pre-filtration ahead of the bag and high-efficiency stages |
| Waste handling | Environmental requirements for coating, solvent and stripping waste |
| Position in sequence | Before inspection, and before the part enters the spray chamber |
The regulatory side is not a later detail
Disposal of coating, solvent and stripping waste sits in the regulatory and site considerations for this sector, alongside ventilation and fire requirements for large-volume chambers and SASO conformity for imported equipment.
These are settled during facility design because they fix duct and stack positions and the waste route before manufacture, not after it.
Frequently asked questions
Does stripping need a third enclosure?
Not necessarily. What it needs is an environment with its own extraction requirements, which a separate preparation chamber can provide. The count is defined after reviewing the process stages.
Is waste treatment part of the equipment supply?
Waste disposal follows the environmental requirements applying to the facility and is planned within the site design. What is delivered is a chamber configured with the extraction and filtration the stage requires.
Which filtration classes are published for this family?
Stop, pre- and ceiling filtration at EU3, EU4 and EU5, with up to three-stage bag and high-efficiency filtration at 98% or better in large-structure chambers.
